In PT&D IC ,3D BIM and 4D BIM are implemented for all substation and renewable projects across all business units. Even 3D models are prepared as a routine.
Certain specific and complex interfaces are modelled in detail including all possible components to facilitate site understanding for execution and also to facilitate customer approval. The below article indicates three such cases where 3D BIM could make a substantial difference.
The design of foundation of wind turbine is quite complex with a large number of reinforcement rods covering the whole surface. The duct for cable entry, earthing, thermocouple, anchor rods etc.., need to be placed in this complex arrangement. 3D model of wind turbine foundation with reinforcements was prepared indicating all the above components. Clash check done to clear all overlaps. Model released to site for implementation.
For 765kV PGCIL project, the GIS building need to be provided with EOT crane. The crane drawing was rejected by customer stating that facility to maintain the light fittings from the crane platform. Is not available. In order to demonstrate the same, the EOT crane was modelled in detail from vendor drawings along with GIS hall, light fitting, etc., and a walkthrough created. This was showcased to client. This visual effect helped in better understanding by client and explanation was possible with walkthrough.
For one of our metro project, RSS customer proposed elevated cable gallery for crossing nallah from NH to RSS area for EHV cableing. However the elevated bypass civil works of customer’s infrastructure contractor were delayed, and was hinderance for the elevated cable gallery work completion. Proposed for alternative nallah crossing through the precast cable duct for better visualization.3D model was created and the precast cable duct arrangements were detailed. This gave clarity on the arrangement for customer approval and completion of EHV cable Installation & Commissioning of RSS ahead of schedule.
