Field BIM Coordinator Certified Program

Field BIM Coordinators play a vital role in boosting project efficiency, minimizing errors, improving quality, and enhancing collaboration with stakeholders. They bridge various project teams, like architects and engineers, and spot inconsistencies in BIM models during pre-construction, mitigating delays.

Post completing Batch - 1 of the Field BIM Coordinator Certified program, applicants felt motivated and were successfully placed as Field BIM Coordinators in their respective IC projects, highlighting the program's effectiveness. Subsequently, due to the growing demand for BIM Coordinators, Batch - 2 was launched and the same was conducted from 11th September to 15th September 2023.

Tomorrow without BIM nothing will happen, take away lessons from this intensive program and apply them effectively on-site.

Ensuing which Mr. Valliappan and Ms. Minmini from Digital Engineering team began the session by explaining the Bexel Manager’s user interface and demonstrated selection sets and custom breakdowns in Bexel Manager, emphasizing their project management significance, and showcasing different project models to highlight scheduling importance.

As a part of Field BIM Coordinator program, BIM managers were invited as the guest speakers to share their experience and deliver a brief note on crucial role of BIM Coordinator at site. Wherein, Ms. Geetha Hariharan, Head of Engineering (SS & UPD BU) and BIM activities in PT&D IC, discussed AR, VR, MR benefits, including model superimposition, and shared insights on civil tolerance and progress monitoring in PT&D projects.

Following this Mr. Raja. P from Digital Engineering team started the session throwing insights on the immerging technology of AR, VR and MR and their applications in L&T’s project practices. Candidates were introduced to the functionalities of the BIM room for collaborative purposes and received hands-on training and experience with the associated devices.

Mr. Sangeeth Kumar (Engineering Manager - Heavy Civil IC) enhanced the key role of BIM coordinator as educator, planner, and innovator to influence the project members with the standards and scope to execute the plan. He also mentioned the major BIM software options in the market, automation in Revit using Dynamo scripts giving a positive note to the future BIM Coordinators.         Mr. Abdul Rehman Rajkafur (Digital Officer - Heavy Civil IC) stated that a HC project will be integrated end to end with all project management operations beginning with BIM. Following his presentation, Mr. Kishore Kumar Dasam – (Sr. manager - BIM B&F IC), being the subject matter expert in Common Data Environment did detail hands-on training in ACC platform which includes Autodesk Build.

Mr. Hardik Narendra Patel – (Head BIM EDRC PAF SBG) shared his experience on implementation of technology stating, “Technology is the sword which the engineers require to do their best by preventing the mistakes in projects”. Drops occur during the design phase for a variety of reasons, including changes in the requirements for the design or other factors. The goal of BIM engineers should be to remove these drops through the advancement of new technologies.

Mr. S. Mariram and Mr. Valliappan of the Digital Engineering Team began training on 4D BIM process, work progress, exhibited, and handled candidates utilising the integrated BIM platform Bexel manager. Candidates were instructed on how to integrate 3D model features into 4D simulations, delay analyses, project progress, and prediction reviews using a colour coding system.

Mr. Aravindraj CM described a project creating a 5D platform using Bexel Manager for data and Power BI for analysis, emphasizing 3D data enrichment for construction management. The integrated workflow streamlines daily progress tracking (DPR) through Bexel Manager's tools.

As a part of this program, seminar on how field BIM is deployed in B&F IC was conducted which was open to all professionals, more than 250 professionals attended this seminar which was conducted in hybrid mode.
Mr. R. Shankar Narayanan (Head – Corporate Centre, B&F IC)
was the speaker of this seminar. He spoke about the journey of BIM adoption at B&F IC starting from 2D CAD to Facility Management illustrating projects of B&F.

By the end of the session, the audience were able to decipher the benefits of integrating BIM.

Concluding the training program, Mr. J. Kabilan (Vice President & Head - Human Resource, DC) and
Mr. Mahesh Aravind Chikodi (Chief Digital Officer)
were invited to present certificates to the newly trained BIM Coordinators. Overall, this was a fantastic eye-opening workshop for all trainees, as it demonstrated how to efficiently use an integrated platform to conduct progress reviews at site.

This program has not only equipped our participants with the necessary skills and knowledge but has also instilled in them a sense of purpose and confidence lead in the dynamic field of BIM Coordination.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the graduates of Batch – 2. Their dedication and commitment are commendable, and we are confident that they will play a pivotal role in driving efficiency and excellence in their project.

We look forward to witnessing their contributions in the exciting journey ahead!
